Love <3

Yes I know it is a bit late for a Valentine’s Day post but doesn’t mean I don’t love my husband. Sure we have our share of arguments and fights and wanting to kill each other but we love each other no matter what and we just grow stronger every time something tries to rip us apart. Today he is helping a friend move away with her daughter from her boyfriend because the boyfriend is causing so many problems in her life. My husband stepped up and is helping her out making a 4 hour (longer actually because of traffic) drive to get her daughter to a secure place so that she can basically start her life over on her own without the support of her boyfriend and daughter’s father.

I really do love this man of mine!  He is an amazing father to my children, and amazing man in general.  We have been married almost 5 years and still going strong!

Soccer!

Well My oldest is signed up to play soccer for this spring season and Daddy is signed up to be a coach! I can’t believe my baby is already 4 years old and starting to want to do his own activities now. And I will be a soccer mom. I hated going to my sister’s and brother’s soccer game every Saturday. I suppose it is different when it is your own kid though? I am not a big sports person. Sure I know how to play soccer, baseball and basketball but I was never into it enough to play on a team. I stuck with music and reading. I was a band geek though late elementary school and my first two years of college. Marching band is a sport I say! We spent just as much, if not more time on the field than any other sport at my school. I digress. Anyway I am hoping I can get into my son’s games so I won’t be the only parent there who is totally uninterested!

Soccer mom life here I come!!

Planning for the Future and Beyond

So we are already halfway through the second month of the year. I guess a little late for resolutions, but still a good time to start planning for the future. This year we have come to an agreement to pay off one vehicle by next year and the second within 3 years, if not sooner. We have a plan in place to get this done a well. We also are working on prepping for various situations, to have emergency supplies on hand for our family to survive and possibly extended family and friends. To be honest this is a goal everyone should strive for no matter your current situation.

Food and Water : Right now it consists of a bucket of freeze-dried meals that would last 72 hours, providing we had water. Of course we also have our normal food supplies which consist of a lot of ramen and spaghetti since they are cheap and easy to stock up on. No that isn’t all we eat though! As long as we had water to last, we could easily last a week right now with what we have in our home. Our water supply on the other hand, we have enough for maybe 2 days going based off of 1 gallon per person per day. So we definitely need to improve that situation.

First Aid: Again very minimal consisting of band-aids, gauze, scissors and tweezers. It holds a lot of room for improvement to say the least, but it is better than nothing, right?

Shelter: We live in a good location that could easily be secured if needed but if we have to leave, our basic shelter is a tent until we can build something more permanent.

So there you have it. We have our plan in place for getting out of our last two debts before buying a home as well as our planning for a disaster or some other event. Do you have any plans for the future or for prepping in case of disaster?

Recovery from the weekend

We took a trip this weekend to visit with family and to officially celebrate my oldest son’s birthday. A weekend of gorging ourselves on pizza, tamales and cake. Now suffering the after math of it all when we are trying to eat more healthy at home. Oh well one weekend won’t set us back too much from that goal. Time to get back into the normal routine and get working on homework for the coming week. Joys of going back to college with three little boys at home and one computer. It is difficult to say the least! It will be worth it in a year or two when I am done and graduating with my Associate’s degree though. I probably will never go for my Bachelor’s degree but there is not much need for me to do so. My dream is having my own home daycare which I don’t need a degree for. Aside from that would be to have my own home away from civilization and being self-sustaining where I wouldn’t really need much of an income at all to survive.

Change of Pace (Yet again!)

Well it has been a long time since I last posted/was able to post. Three boys, quitting my business and just trying to keep up on the house and full time college take up a lot of time! I am going to try to start posting more as I get into a new routine with school and now that I have the hang of three little boys. Life should get easier, right? Anyone? Uh oh….

Anyway.

We are starting to get into prepping because you never know what will happen. Right now we have a bucket of freeze dried meals that would last us 3 days. We need to start getting more water stored up but we could make it about 2 days with the water we have at this moment. I purchased a dehydrator about a year ago and have not used it a whole lot. i did use it a few months ago to dry shredded potatoes for future hash browns. It didn’t turn out too bad when I re-hydrated some of them to cook. Today I am going to attempt to dehydrate some chicken and onions. If nothing else it will make my house smell good! We want to be more self-sustaining even though we are living in a condo, learning to preserve food for long term storage is still a good skill to learn and to have food saved for an unimaginable event or even loss of income.

Another thing we are doing is looking into unschooling. I have come across it a few times over the past few years in researching on homeschool methods. I keep getting drawn back to it with more recently being Whole Life or Radical Unschooling. Simply speaking it is taking a more laid back approach to raising kids. Letting them dictate what they want to learn and letting natural consequences dictate their actions. Basically, just say yes more! It seems to fit with what I currently do with teaching, now to change parenting styles and get the husband on board with it! We will see what time brings since our oldest is now 4 years old so we need to start deciding something soon!
